I’m a sports nut…huge sports fan, so through “Redbox” I rented the sports documentary TYSON. I remember reading/hearing about it, but I never had the chance to see it. Considering sports is my future career path, this movie was vital for me to see.

If you’re unfamiliar with the movie, it’s a sports documentary on one of the greatest fighters of all-time, Mike Tyson. Tyson talked about his life and things that he experienced from childhood to the present. Some things were his first fight, him getting sent upstate for the first time, his marriage to Robin Givens, and the rape accusations that sent him to jail for three years.

Myself, I’ve always known Tyson to be a bad boy; I wouldn’t want to be in an alley alone with him. From the documentary you learn that Tyson had internal demons that often crippled him mentally. He was, and probably still and will always be misunderstood.

We all have issues, but how we deal with them is a different story.

The director did a great job of getting into the mind and thought process of Tyson, I think that’s why I enjoyed it so much.

One part that stood out in my head was from his early fights. Tyson broke down how he would break down a fighter mentally, and already won a fight before he even threw a punch.

The most chilling quote from the movie to me is when Tyson said, “Boxing has no place in my heart anymore.” For one of the greatest to say this, you can only imagine the ups and downs one went through.

Out of 5 punches, I give it a four and a half…One of the best sports docs of the decade.
